Born and educated in Scotland, though I live in Devon, England.
I wish Peace and Equality for All.
To meet and share the joy of the journey, stimulating conversations, laughter, good humour, Lively, loving souls, from around the world. To travel, and create new work, to Inspire and be Inspired by others.
To become absorbed in and reflect, communities, and culture. To work and paint on aid related projects with like minded souls..... throughout the world. Help create opportunities for others, for them to explore their essences with life.
I am interested in.... Vegetarianism, Organic gardening, roses, horticulture, reading, hiking through forests, travel, swimming in the sea and streams; walking on beaches, cliffs, moors and mountains; music, architecture, history, astronomy, archaeology, science, philosophy, metaphysics, dowsing, Kinesiology, yoga, meditation and contemplation. Sharing journeys, stories, People, animals, birds and insects, learning about new cultures; Life itself ,and all its infinitely variable and wonderful aspects, I find of consuming interest.
Many of my paintings depict richly detailed scenes and reflect my own deep interest in the lives of people and their work.
I believe that..... “Lives are not ordinary – all our lives and the way we live them and interact with our environment are important. I hold up a mirror to people and situations.”
My studio is in a fine green timbered barn, constructed using traditional mortise and tenon joints and fastened with wooden dowels. The structure has a living feel to it.
Situated on a hillside farm with three wildlife ponds,it overlooks the beautiful Teign Valley, on the edge of the Dartmoor National Park.
It is a wonderful environment for painting and sketching nature and I take small groups to explore their creativity in these environs.
Each year I am invited out to paint on Tresco, the Isles Of Scilly; Initially by Robert Dorrien-Smith and subsequently by Gallery Tresco. The famed sub-tropical Abbey Gardens, and wonderfully diverse geography of this sacred Isle always provide a rich vein of inspiration for me. I now regularly exhibit there.
I spend a lot of time in Cornwall, exploring the coves and cliff paths, the beaches and Ports.
Another of my loves is rural France. Initially invited over by Monaco Fine Arts in the early 90’s to paint the scenery of Southern France and Northern Italy; I developed a love of the area and spend as much time as possible exploring and painting in the wine regions particularly.
I studied at Dundee College of Art from 1974.... finishing my postgraduate studies there in 1979.
I won scholarships from the British Council to Budapest Fine Art Academy,
and the Elizabeth Greenshield scholarship twice from Montreal, Canada.
I have been exhibited at the Scottish Royal Watercolour Society,
the Royal Watercolour Society, and the Royal Institute.
Also in numerous galleries in towns across England, Scotland and Wales. My work has also been exhibited and in private collections in Europe, America, Canada and Japan.
I have received sponsorship from Rosenstiel’s Fine Art Publishers, London, residencies at Grizedale, and Farringdon. My paintings have been published by Rosenstiel’s, Medici and Parnassus.
